BDJ 87 At Sandtoft Museum

 

Trolleybus details

387 (BDJ 87) Built 1950. Chassis British United Traction 9611T. Bodywork East Lancashire Coachbuilders, Blackburn. 56 seats. English Electric 550volt motors. Supplied new to St Helens in 1951. Originally numbered 187 when new but re numbered in 1955 to 387. The vehicle spent it's entire working life in St Helens on the Rainhill/Prescot circular for just 7 years.
Sold in June 1958 when the trolleybus system closed down to Bradford City Transport. Bodywork up seated to 63 and re furbished by Bradford transport.
Remained in service until 1971 and sold for preservation to the St Helens Trolleybus & Transport Society. Preserved as near as possible to it's St Helens condition.
Total mileage in public service in St Helens and Bradford over 700,000 miles. Now resides at the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft Nr Doncaster and is currently being re furbished to re enter service at the museum.
